New GGS Book Services Division Launches It’s Innovative “Power of One” Concept to Book Publishers

YORK, PA --- GGS Information Services, 3265 Farmtrail Road, recently announced a new strategic alignment with the creation of its GGS Book Services division and the acquisition of two leading design and development service companies to further augment its operations.

GGS Book Services is geared specifically to managing the growing full-service needs of publishers and will offer a complete “One-Stop Shop” for content development, artwork and design, XML/SGML development, and prepress work for the collegiate and el-hi publishing markets.

The new division combines the technical resources and proven professional skills of the prepress and database services groups of the main GGS offices located in York, PA, with the company’s Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey-based production facility.

This organizational move will also integrate under one efficient “umbrella” the complementary work activities of two firms which have operated strongly but independently of one another in the publishing field. This bringing together of many value-added services into one single new GGS Book Services division is what the company calls it’s “Power of One” business model for book publishers.

As part of this business model, GGS now assumes the activity of Acorn Publishing Services, Inc.

of Wayne, NJ, a developmental services firm, and the management of all design and graphics activity affiliated with Circa 86, Inc. of Tinton Falls NJ, a leading design group.

Among the many collective services available through GGS Book Services, will be a specialization and concentration in the areas of design, development and production for the disciplines of Reading, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts, Literature, Test Preparation, Music, and ESL.

“This strategic alignment creates an ‘operationally complete’ GGS Book Services, and is an important step in allowing us to deliver greater cost benefits and enhanced production efficiencies to both current as well as newer customers,” noted Lloyd Kendall, executive vice president of GGS Book Services.

Messrs. Brian Molloy and Irwin Hahn, previously associated with Circa 86, assume director-level responsibility within the new GGS Book Services, while Marilyn Williams and Peter Faulkner, previously with Acorn Publishing Services, Inc., have been named vice presidents in the new division. All four individuals, highly experienced in the book publishing field, will be based out of the Atlantic Highlands office, conveniently located to downtown New York City.

All sales staff personnel will report directly to Lloyd Kendall. Jan Nystrom, vice president and general manager (York office), and Jeff Barrie, vice president and general manager (New Jersey office), will both assume duties for all production activities under the new division’s rationalization plan.

“Both Jeff and Jan have been closely involved for many years with publishing operations at our company, and our shared vision is to be the recognized leader in book services for the collegiate, professional and el-hi markets. Now we are delighted to have such well-respected professionals as Brian, Irwin, Marilyn and Peter also join our GGS Team, further strengthening that commitment,” Kendall said.

“They bring to us their finely-honed skills in content development and graphics and design. Their many personal contacts within the book publishing business should be seen as prized assets in today’s challenging marketplace, offering many advantages that any publisher would be wise to take advantage of,” he added.

The new GGS Book Services boasts leading-edge inter-connectivity, providing complete project redundancy among its two “mirror” production facilities in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and also incorporates high-speed voice/data integration as part of its daily business functions.

Further enhancing performance is the use of additional voice/data integration among the U.S. based offices and a new India-based production facility located in Chennai, India, with two-way video-conferencing in-use between all company locations.

This business synergy represents a new era in book publishing at GGS, in that one facility is fully functional while others are closed during typical non-business hours. This flexibility, coupled with an extensive computer network linking its U.S. and India locations, means that customer work can be processed nearly “24/7”, maximizing production uptime.

As an added commitment in serving its growing base of book publishing customers , and for optimum job response and throughput, major investments in facility renovations and streamlined workflow processes have been completed at the New Jersey and Pennsylvania locations.
